Since its debut in November 2013, the Savannah Food and Wine Festival has evolved and expanded each year, more than living up to a reputation as one of the South's premier culinary happenings. It grew out of the popular annual dining event known as Taste of Savannah—which has showcased the city's best restaurants for 15 years—and that prior 3-hour dining experience is the signature event for the festival, which is a week-long epicurean extravaganza that's not to be missed.

World's Largest Lowcountry Boil

Hutchinson Island, Riverfront Esplanade

This is the first year for this pre-festival event and organizers are hoping to set a world record for the World's Largest Lowcountry Boil. It will be a family-friendly party with music, a riverside view, and heaping plates of shrimp, corn, potatoes, Vidalia onions, and sausage all seasoned up Georgia style. Libations include Coca-Cola products and grown-up beverages available at the cash bar.

Master Class Series at the Mansion

The Mansion on Forsyth Park

The Master Class Series is your chance to pick up tips and techniques from the pros and learn a little bit more about these celebrity chefs and wine, beer and spirits experts. The series offers interactive cooking classes/demonstrations and beverage learning experiences. The setting is The Mansion on Forsyth Park, an iconic hotel housed in a Victorian Romanesque mansion originally built in 1888.

Georgia Grown Trustees Wine Challenge Dinner

The Wine Challenge Dinner is a first-time event and it's all about Georgia. The best of Georgia wines will be awarded and the event is also being billed as a "Five-Course ultimate Peach State dining experience." The foods and products used are grown/made right here in the state. As a guest, you get to tantalize your taste buds with award-worthy wines and foods that make you say "yum." You also get to meet the chefs and winemakers, and you can look forward to dining with the latter.

It's the main event for connoisseurs and collectors and it showcases some of the world's finest wines, each at 90+ points (that's outstanding-plus in wine speak). Secret Savannah Speakeasy

Georgia State Railroad Museum

Reminiscent of prohibition heydays, only those who have the "Golden Ticket" will be privy to the hidden location of the Speakeasy. This re-creation of a secret, underground social club is replete with music and entertainment, small-plate tastings of Savannah's best eats, and cocktails and craft brews aplenty. Flapper dresses, Fedoras, Great Gatsby style suits, and the like are welcomed. Those dressed in prohibition-era attire can compete for a weekend package for two to the 2016 festival.

River Street Stroll

An exclusive, limited-ticket event, this scenic supper is a bountiful celebration on the green at the prestigious Plantation Clubhouse (at The Landings on paradise-like Skidaway Island). Expect to get your fill of artisan specialties served up at indoor and outdoor culinary stations; to amply sample wine, spirits and Stella Artois beverages (their Airstream will be pouring onsite); and to get up close and personal with the regionally and nationally recognized culinary talents behind this event.

Get the VIP treatment with a ticket for the Board of Director's Lounge at Taste of Savannah. There are a limited number of tickets and they come with early-entry privileges to the tasting tents, access to private indoor and outdoor areas and a catered gourmet experience with its own bars. VIP tickets also offer access to private-lot parking and meet and greet sessions with chefs and winemakers.

Six of Georgia's rising star chefs will pool their collective talents for a pop-up dinner at Smith Brothers Butcher Shop, one of Savannah's newest culinary destinations. There's also mingle time with the chefs beforehand over hors d'oeuvres.
