Savannah's calendar of events says it all—October is stacked back-to-back with enjoyable things to do. So, delight in the autumn weather and the myriad events. Here's a glimpse of what's going on.

.First Friday for Folk Music

Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter David Kraai, who has several albums under his belt, will stop by Savannah Folk Music Society to share his musical tapestry of country, folk and rock. Midlife Crisis will join him on the bill. Richard Flynn, David Posner and Joe Kropp—all accomplished vocalists and musicians—make up this "local" act whose repertoire ranges from waltzes to folksy blues.

When: October 2, 7:30pm – 10:00pm

Where: First Presbyterian Church

Cost: $5.00 minimum suggested donation

Oktoberfest

Say Wunderbar! Savannah's annual Oktoberfest is the First Weekend event. You'll see dirndls and Lederhosen (or might be wearing one or the other yourself) as you enjoy authentic grub and grog and browse arts and crafts booths. Oompah bands will have you singing and dancing to toe-tapping tunes. And you won't want to miss the darling dashing dachshunds in the Weiner Dog Races.

When: October 2 – October 4

Annual Buddy Walk®

Savannah's observance of Down Syndrome Awareness Month includes a Buddy Walk® organized by the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society. This one-mile fundraiser welcomes all ages and abilities (and the family pet). So take a walk. Then stay for a festival offering music, games, food and drink.

When: October 3, Walk begins at 10:00am

Where: Forsyth Park

Cost: Registration: $15/person, $50/family of four

Picnic in the Park

Pack a picnic, grab the family and head to Forsyth Park for an evening of fantastic music. Local band, choral and orchestral students will get things started; then the Philharmonic takes the bandstand.

When: October 4, Starts at 4:00pm

Cost: Free and open to the public

Savannah Greek Festival

This annual festival transports you to Greece, no passport needed. How so? Greek delicacies are yours to relish. Fellow festivalgoers beckon you to join in joyous circle dance. And as you shop in the Greek marketplace and grocery store, you may need to remind yourself that you're in Savannah.

When: October 8 – October 10

Where: St. Paul's Hellenic Center

Cost: Free entry until 4:00pm Oct. 8 and 9; $2 donation after 4:00pm (and on Oct. 10)

Tybee Island Pirate Festival

Ahoy! Pirates in full regalia will descend on Tybee on Columbus Day weekend. The swashbuckling fun begins with an 18-and-up party, and the festival has everything from live music to a spirited pirate parade. You can score nifty loot in the vendors market. Little Mateys have their own cove where they'll be amused with carnival rides, magic tricks and more. Costume contests are a given. And band headliners are Big Engine (high energy rock) and Junior Marvin's Wailers (Reggae).

When: October 8 – October 11

Where: Tybee Island

Cost: Daily $12 - $15; Weekend $23 (advance price); Kids 12 and under: Free

Buccaneer Ball $40 ($50 at the door)

Savannah Folk Music Festival

Savannah Folk Music Society hosts their 26th music festival on Columbus Day weekend. Friday night showcases SFMS members. The gloves come off on Saturday at the Youth Songwriting Competition Finals; that evening couples can take to the floor until the last note is played and last call made at an old-time country dance. Sunday offers a folk-star-studded concert that's a musical journey.

When: October 9 – October 11

Cost: All events are free and open to the public

Free Family Day: Impressionism

Family Day at Telfair Academy is sure to make a lasting impression. Its focus is Impressionist art (a related exhibit runs Oct. – Jan.) and the fun and games include an ever-popular scavenger hunt; color games to explore technique and color theory; and help with creating your own color book.

When: October 10

Where: Telfair Academy

Making Strides of Savannah

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is a chance to support fundraising, boost awareness and celebrate survivorship. It's a non-competitive 5K walk in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and frolicking fun is lined up for the event—including Zumba and a tutu contest.

When: October 10, Walk starts at 10:00am

Where: Ellis Square

Cost: Registration: $15/person, $50/family of four

Fiesta Latina

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Savannah will celebrate with Fiesta Latina where the riverfront comes alive with vibrant rhythms of Latin music from a diverse lineup of live bands, dancers attired in a kaleidoscope of colors and an array of vendors selling arts, crafts and tasty food selections.

When: October 10

Where: Rousakis Plaza, River Street

Cost: Free admission

Savannah Speed Classic

The Savannah Speed Classic has full throttle action you can watch and get in on too. Look on as races unfold with roaring engines and squealing tires. Ride with a pro driver on a hot lap around the circuit. Take a test drive on the track. Or get in the thick of it with pit access. Or why not do it all?

When: October 23 – October 25

Where: Hutchinson Island

Savannah Film Festival

For eight days each autumn, our city is awash with tens of thousands of folks reveling in the highly popular Savannah Film Festival. SCAD presents this event which features a signature series of films, competition screenings, and premiere screenings that include independent films. SCAD students get to strut their stuff alongside big names. And heads up: keep your eyes open for famous faces.

When: October 24 – October 31

Shalom Y'All Jewish Food Festival

This is year 27 for this beloved food fest that has grown from small beginnings to 10,000 folks who come to savor Jewish food (including the always-popular deli sandwiches) and to stroll oak-lined walkways taking in entertainment that ranges from music and dance to magic and puppet shows.

When: October 25

Where: Forsyth Park

Cost: No admission fee; Food purchases are by tickets
