Isn’t it nice to be in Savannah this time of year? Day by day, we watch the temperatures head south. We nod and smile knowingly as that all-too-familiar Southern humidity goes on hiatus. And we get psyched up for popular fall festivals and other well-liked events that are coming up.

Savannah Greek Festival

Place: Saint Paul’s Hellenic Center

Date and Time:  October 12 - 14, 11am-9pm daily

Cost: $2 donation after 4pm Oct. 13

$2 donation all day Oct. 14

It’s a big, happy gathering where everyone can get their Greek on for three days! Traditional music and energetic folk dancing, delicious homemade Greek food and desserts, an authentic marketplace and more – this taste of Greece is entertainment and fun for the whole family!

Mattress Dash

Place: Forsyth Park

Date and Time:  October 15, Starts at 1 pm

Cost: $150 registration fee

It’s back… the mad dash through Forsyth Park by costumed teammates pushing creatively designed racing frames holding mattresses and a rider. Silly fun? You could say that. A frolicking good time? Oh yeah! Join the racers or watch the dash for glory. Either way, you’re destined for some good belly laughs. Proceeds benefit the sustainability project for Park Place Youth Emergency Shelter.

Gullah/Geechee Festival

Place: Rousakis Riverfront Plaza

Date and Time:  October 21, Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday 11am-6pm

Cost: FREE

Unity in the Community and the Gullah/Geechee Nation invite you and your family to join them for a weekend of home-cooked food and Gullah/Geechee crafts, music, history and heritage. This is the third year for this celebration which showcases live entertainment and an assortment of artists such as Sweetgrass basket artists and doll and jewelry makers.

Midnight Garden Ride

Place: Downtown Savannah

Date and Time:  October 21, Starts at 7 pm

Cost: Tickets $21-$100

Registration fees benefit Savannah Bicycle Campaign

Saddle up for this annual family-friendly nighttime bike ride that winds through neighborhoods pretty enough to be on a postcard, and that winds up at Historic Grayson Stadium for a cool concert and after party. The ride is casually paced (6-8 mph) and lasts for about an hour. Dress up in a creative or even outlandish costume if you like and be sure to register for the costume contest.

Savannah Speed Classic

Place: Hutchinson Island

Hear the roar of the engines. Feel like you’re a part of the race by taking a hot lap ride or buying a ticket that offers pit access. Celebrate the heritage of Grand Prix racing, which was “born” in Savannah in the 1900s, and treat yourself to Lowcountry good eats from your choice of the eight food trucks in this year’s expanded Food Truck Alley.

Savannah PRIDE Festival

Place: Ellis Square/City Market

Date and Time:  October 28, Days and Times Vary

This year’s celebration of the diversity of the LGBT community in the Coastal Empire will be in Ellis Square, allowing attendees to experience shops, restaurants, tours and more right in the heart of downtown. A Halloween-themed ball will kick off the festival on Thursday night at the Mansion on Forsyth Park. Friday night is the annual Gala and VIP All-Access Exclusive party at Pacci. Saturday is the Downtown Takeover and official after party at Ghost Coast distillery.

Savannah Film Festival

Tickets are available beginning October 2 for this highly popular event where celebrity sightings are commonplace and the films are always awesome. Many folks boast that this 8-day cinematic experience is one of the best festivals in Savannah during autumn. It’s the venue of acclaimed documentaries, animation and more, including films that generate Oscar buzz. And you won’t want to miss the chance to get the scoop from industry insiders at panels and workshops.

Shalom Y'All Food Festival

It’s got a menu of delicious Jewish delicacies that will make your mouth water and entertainment that appeals to family members of all ages. This festival has been a part of the Savannah cultural landscape for more than a quarter century and has grown to attract more than 10,000 people of all faiths. Note: This year, the event is taking place in Monterey Square rather than Forsyth Park.
