Yuletide  2016 is fast upon us, and in Savannah, this festive  season comes with  a diverse  selection of holiday  shows.  Concerts, ballets, cabarets - you name it, Savannah's got  it. What's on the  calendar for this year? The possibilities  are many.  Here is a quick round-up of  seven fun holiday  shows to see.

1.   A Christmas  Tradition

The Historic  Savannah Theatre presents  this variety  show  each year and it's a timeless  favorite   for both  residents and visitors.  It's sprinkled  with  family-friendly comedy and moments of audience participation, and traditional Christmas  imagery  fills the  stage.  Kids delight  in Frosty the  Snowman, dancing  reindeer  and Santa and his elves. Grown-ups  wax nostalgic  with  classic Christmas  tunes.  All in all, it's a dazzling show  that  will  take you on a musical journey   with  a few  surprises  along the  way.

2.   The Nutcracker

What  better  way to make spirits  bright  than  with  a staple  of the  season -  Savannah  Ballet Theatre's production   of The Nutcracker.  Ballerinas  dance and twirl  to Tchaikovsky's   magical  music, enchanting all who  watch  the  story  of a young  girl whose  love and devotion   bring  her cherished  Nutcracker   toy to  life.   From the  villainous   Mouse  King to the  Sugar Plum Fairy to the  Waltz  of the  Snowflakes,  this performance   is one that  easily captures  your  imagination   and transports   you to a fairy  tale  world.

3.   A Feast of Carols

The joyful  voices of Savannah's  Children's  Choir come sweetly  together   in this concert  of holiday selections,  and there's  something   for  everyone.   Lift your  voice  with  theirs  in Christmas  carol  sing-alongs.  Hold sacred classics in reverence.  Sway in time  with  the  layered  voices and rhythmic   flavor of the  popular  Christmas  song African  Noel, and let hand-clapping   gospel  uplift  and exhilarate   you.

4.   Rockin'  Around  the  Christmas  Cabaret

Get ready to  rock around  the  Christmas  tree  with  hits from  the  '50s and '60s. Even if the  music was before  your  time,  you're  sure to enjoy  the  vibrant  vibe  of tunes  made famous  by artists  like jazz and popular  music singer  Peggy Lee, cultural  icon  Elvis Presley and Savannah-born  lyricist,. singer  and songwriter   Johnny  Mercer.  So, don pedal  pushers or a swing skirt,  a Greaser or Letterman  jacket, saddle oxfords  or Mary Jane shoes and have a holly, jolly  time!

5.  Savannah  Philharmonic   Holiday Pops

A perennial  favorite,   Holiday  Pops is a chance to celebrate  the joy  and warmth   of the season with  a concert  by a full  orchestra,  chorus,  soloists  and special guests.  It features  some of the  most well- loved  holiday  music to usher your  celebration   in with  a festive  start.  There  is also an afternoon matinee   showcasing  Savannah's  Children's  Choir that's  a treat  for the whole  family.

6.   Annual Christmas  Jam Concert

Every Christmas  Day for the  last 40 years, jazz enthusiasts   have gathered  for this event  which  starts as a concert  and evolves  into  a jam  session. Some call it a homecoming   concert  as former  Savannah residents  have been known  to frequent   the  event,  and it brings  many local and regional  jazz singers and musicians  to the  same venue.  The concert  raises money  for  music student  scholarships.

Admission:  $25 in advance,  $30 at the door

7.   Moscow  Ballet's  Great  Russian  Nutcracker

As part of its 2016 North  American  tour,  Moscow  Ballet  brings their  acclaimed  version  of this perennial   ballet  to Savannah. Award-winning    principal  artists  and close to 40 classically trained dancers  will  perform   against the  backdrop  of spectacular,   hand-painted   sets with  larger-than-life props  like a 60-foot  growing  Christmas  tree  and a rose-shooting   cannon.  As an extra treat,  local student  dancers who  were  selected  in earlier  auditions  will  perform   on stage in ancillary  roles.
