When Travel + Leisure magazine announced the top cities for their 2016 reader-determined awards and Savannah made several of the lists, it was a reminder that our hometown continues to be a Top 10 city in many respects. Why, just in the first half of 2016 Savannah amassed an impressive collection of recognitions – like the ones below – to add to those already under her belt.

It’s no surprise that Savannah took the #3 spot on Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual list of “Best Cities in the U.S.” It’s been among the Top 10 in this category for several years in a row. What did come as an awesome surprise is that Savannah also made the T+L list of “World’s Best Cities” (#9) for the very first time. It’s not really mystifying, though. Savannah has it all – culture, history, beauty, charm, hospitality as big as all outdoors, and a plethora of OMG shopping and dining experiences.

T+L readers also voted on their favorite places in America to visit. Savannah was one of them of course. Plus, Savannah was ranked #11 on the T+L list of America’s friendliest cities. Among the appeal factors mentioned: the beguiling beauty of moss-draped oaks and cobblestone streets, the spell cast by Savannah’s historic charm, and how absolutely easy it is to befriend a stranger.

It’s no secret that Savannah has long been a filming location of choice for both television and big screen movies. So, you could say it was only a matter of time before it claimed the top spot on Movie Maker Magazine’s list of the best places to live and work as a moviemaker. It’s got a variety of ideal “lights, camera and action” locations from the Historic District’s ethereal squares to Tybee’s blissful beach to Savannah’s idyllic islands. Plus, Savannah has world-class filmmaking facilities.

Savannah has also been named by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the 12 best cities to retire in the United States. Based on a survey of their reader's ages 68 and older, Savannah ranked #9 on the list of places they would like to retire to. Our city’s mellow pace and temperate climate, as you might expect, had a little something to do with it. Savannah was also praised for her superb selection of first-rate golf courses, a thriving arts scene, and affordability that helps pension funds go further.

Savannah’s Southern charm, postcard-worthy scenery, mild temperatures and coastal breezes have also led to her landing several other salutes. U.S. News Travel ranked The Hostess City #5 on their list of best romantic getaways in the USA, speaking of Savannah as having genteel charm and an “eccentric streak.” Mashable placed our city on its list of 12 recommendations on where to take a future trip, calling it “a vibrant and modern city that is about much more than antebellum architecture.” And then a nod from across the pond by way of The Telegraph (London); they included Savannah on their list of 50 US experiences you must have on your bucket list.
The accolades keep adding up and we’ll keep celebrating them with glee as we know first-hand how well-deserved they are. You can find a full list on the Visit Savannah website; it dates back a year or two.
